Our Work Assignments

On Friday, we had our orientation with the Ranger.  Sonny's job is to shadow the Senior Park Aide for task assignments, specifically working on electrical projects.  He works about 6 hours a day.  The old barracks and officer's homes are rented out (Camp Retreat Center) and one of Sonny's task is to prepare for incoming guests.

This barrack sleeps about 60.  Sonny's job was to tighten all the
bolts holding the beds together. Good thing since a few of them
were pretty loose.

Everybody seems to get to use the vehicles.  Sonny was sent off in this truck
to gather up all the recycle from the Retreat Center.

The view from the Park Office window where I can see the ship traffic and
the lawn mowers.  Mowing happens every day somewhere in the 700+
acres.
This is my station at the Museum counter in the gift shop.  I've pretty much
mastered the credit card machine as long as the internet is
working. There is inventory and sales tracking duties, housekeeping,
answering historical questions ( I've read lots of history), and selling
Discover Passes.  This job is more interactive with the public where the
park office is with the staff.
The Museum has artifacts from the early 1900s-1950s when the
Fort was active.  Many are from the buildings in the park
and other period pieces were donated.
The Museum is housed in the Quartermaster Building which is
over 100 years old.
The tube on the wall is an old wooden water pipe.
Older stove and refrigerator from the 30s.

The "Dusty Rays" from Port Townsend came out to put on a concert
in one of the bunkers on July 3.  Zydaco, blue grass, fiddle and dancing tunes.

Afternoon visit to the store for a Carmel Mocha!
